Treatment For Hair Loss

Hair loss is a very common condition and affects most people at some time in their lives. Because there are many types of hair loss, finding the cause can be challenging. Fortunately, most types of hair loss can be reversed once the cause is under control. There are some really effective ways to treat hair loss. You can either treat it with drugs like minoxidil, mesotherapy, or just choose a natural treatment for hair loss using homemade remedies and recipes.

Hair loss overview

Most hair loss is not associated with systemic or internal disease, nor is poor diet a frequent factor. Hair may simply thin as a result of predetermined genetic factors and the overall aging process. Many men and women may notice mild physiologic thinning of hair starting in their 30’s and 40’s. Life vicissitudes, including illness like thyroid disease, emotional trauma, protein deprivation (during strict dieting), reduced blood circulation in the scalp, and hormonal changes like those in pregnancy, puberty, and menopause may cause hair loss. Hair loss, hair thinning and problems with hair growth occur when our growth cycle is disrupted. This can be triggered by some of the conditions mentioned before.

Understanding the hair growth cycle

  • Anagen phase

The anagen phase is the active growth phase of hair follicles. The cells in the root of the hair are dividing rapidly, adding to the hair shaft. During this phase the hair grows about one centimeter, or about half of an inch, every 28 days. Scalp hair stays in this active phase of growth for two to six years. At any time, about 80-90% of the hairs on our heads are in anagen phase. However, if a person is suffering from hair loss, there must be a factor that is shortening the anagen phase.

  • Catagen phase

At the end of the anagen phase, our hair enters the catagen phase. A short transitional phase that lasts approximately 10 days. During the anagen phase, a hair bulb forms at the bottom of the hair follicle and matures into a full-length strand of hair that grows outwards past the scalp barrier. During the catagen phase, however, structural changes take place in the maturing hair over a number of weeks. Even though body hair and scalp hair each go through an identical catagen phase, the body hair goes through a much shorter anagen phase. As such, body hair does not get an opportunity to grow long like scalp hair, but rather instead has plenty of time to become ready for shedding.

  • Telogen phase

Lastly, our hair enters the telogen phase, a resting phase when our hair falls out. The follicle then remains inactive for 3 months and the whole process is repeated. During this final stage of a hair’s life cycle, the hair ceases to grow any further. The dermal papilla enters a resting state and does not supply any nutrition to the hair. Which is fully grown and no longer needs sustenance.

Treatment for hair loss

First of all, and before our treatment for hair loss, it is important to determine that the condition is not due to an underlying illness. If that is the case, the medical condition needs to be under control  before we treat hair loss. There is a wide range of hair loss treatments, here are some of the common and effective ones:

  • Drugs and medicationstreatment-for-hair-loss

There are two medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat hair loss are:

Minoxidil (Rogaine): Minoxidil is an over-the-counter liquid or foam that you rub into your scalp twice a day to grow hair and to prevent further hair loss. Both men and women can use this drug but in different amounts.

Finasteride (Propecia): This prescription drug is available only to men. It’s a daily pill. Many men taking finasteride experience a slowing of hair loss, and some may show some new hair growth. You need to keep taking it to retain benefits.

  • Surgerytreatment-for-hair-loss

In the most common type of permanent hair loss, only the top of the head loses hair. Hair transplant or restoration surgery can
make the most of the hair you have left. During this procedure, your surgeon removes tiny plugs of skin, each containing a few hairs, from the back or sides of your scalp. He or she then implants the plugs into the bald sections of your scalp. In addition, some doctors prescribe some hair loss medication before and after surgery to improve results. This treatment for hair loss can be might be effective, however, it is very expensive and has several side effects.

  • Treat hair loss naturally

There are many treatments for hair loss in a form of homemade recipes. It’s easy, harmless and totally affordable. Here are some simple ingredients to treat hair loss and stimulate new growth.

Rosemary oil

A simple way to treat hair loss and stimulate hair growth at home is to give yourself a scalp massage. This will increase blood flow to your scalp, enhance the strength of your roots, and help nutrients get to your follicle faster. Rosemary oil stimulates hair growth, dilates blood vessels and, in turn, stimulates the follicles to produce new growth. In addition, this oil gives the hair a healthy softness and shine. Simply add a couple of drops to your organic shampoo or, dilute it with another oil, like olive or coconut, and apply it directly to your scalp and massage it in. Rinse it with clean water after at an hour.

Egg Yolk Mask

Eggs contain lecithin and protein, which strengthen, nourish, and heal our strands. If your hair breaks before it gets past your shoulders, an egg mask will be your savior. As this is one effective treatment for hair loss. Here’s how to use it:

  • First, mix two eggs with two tablespoons of olive oil. You can add half a cup of water to dilute the mixture if the stickiness bothers you.
  • Apply the mask directly to dry, brushed, hair, and leave it on for up to thirty minutes.
  • Rinse your hair with warm water
  • Then, just shampoo and condition as usual for stronger strands.
