Hair Loss Causes & Treatments In Women

Hair is women’s best accessory, when a woman starts loosing her hair, she begins to freak out. For us women, our curls are an expression of our style and personality. While it’s true that men are more likely to lose their hair, mostly due to male pattern baldnessHair loss is also common in women. Hair Loss In Women has many causes and reasons. It can range from simple and temporary, to more complex due to a health condition. There are ways to treat this problem, it all depends on the cause.

Reasons And cause Of Hair Loss In Women

  • Cancer Treatment

Chemo and radiation therapy, two of the most widely used therapies, can take a toll on your hair. In their quest to kill cancer cells, both can harm follicles and trigger dramatic shedding. Fortunately this is temporary, your hair will grows back after a couple month from finishing the chemo therapy.

  • Medications

There are medications out there that can cause hair loss as a side effect, here are some of the common names:

  • Blood thinners
  • Gout medications
  • Ulcer medications
  • Acne medications
  • Antidepressant medications
  • Lowering cholesterol Medications
  • Medications for seizures
  • Anti-inflammation
  • Beta blockers
  • Physical Stress

2High-level physical or emotional stress can cause you to suddenly shed huge amounts of hair. This occurs whenever the body is experiencing a temporary shock. Like when you are going through a traumatic accident or health condition. This can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium.

  • Poor Blood Circulation

Your hair needs vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in order for it to stay healthy and grow. these nutrients reach your follicles through blood, which is why a lack of blood supply will cause hair loss.

  • Lupus

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body. Just because you have lupus doesn’t mean you’ll experience hair loss problems, but it is a great chance you will.

  • Thyroid Disease

Thyroid Disease can lead to non-scarring hair loss, which is brought on when your thyroid produces too much or not enough thyroid hormone. When your body is producing an excessive amount of thyroid hormone it is called hyperthyroidism. When it’s not producing enough thyroid hormone it is known as hypothyroidism. Thyroid diseases affect your hair growth because it affects your metabolism and hair follicles. It’s important to note that some medications used to treat thyroid disease can cause hair loss.

  • Pregnancy

Women may notice their hair seem fuller during pregnancy. That’s because high hormone levels keep resting hairs from falling out. When a woman is pregnant her hormones will get altered. During pregnancy these hormones are sometimes reflected with the amount of hair growth and thinning on the scalp. However, once the pregnancy is over the amount of estrogen in the body will drop significantly causing a scary shedding. This is why a lot of pregnant women feel they are going bald after the pregnancy is over. But it only takes a little while for their hair to grow back.

  • Malnutrition

People suffering from malnutrition are known to lose their hair as a result, due to not enough zinc and protein.  If you are suffering from bulimia or anorexia then you are more at risk of experiencing hair loss.

  • Over Styling

Hair wearing cornrows or tight ponytails can irritate your scalp and cause hair to fall out. The same goes for using tight rollers. Try to let your hair down specially while asleep, because hair also needs to breathe. Over using hair dryers, coloring or tight rollers might also be one of the reasons to losing hair. Fortunately, once you stop using these hair killers, your hair should grow back normally. Be aware that long-term use of these styles can scar your scalp and lead to permanent hair loss.

Solutions And Treatments Of Hair Loss In Women

  • Minoxidil (Rogaine) is approved by the FDA for female pattern hair loss. It can slow or stop it in most women and may help hair grow back. However, its benefits go away when you stop taking it.
  • Hair Transplants involves moving hair from a thinning scalp areas from fuller areas. Unfortunately, if a woman is suffering from female pattern baldness, she will need a donor.
  • Hair-Loss Products  are all over the market. Seems like some cosmetic companies started producing non chemical compounds using natural ingredients such as Argan Oil,  Saw Palmetto, Nettle extract and even caffeine in their shampoo and conditioner formulas, which makes them safe and better to use than chemical products.
